Circle of stone slabs and pillars
stand alone on a rocky cliffside.
Below lies a deep gorge formed by fire and water.
Steady winds blow across the hot, dry lands,
biting, icy sharp during the cold winters.
What is this structure so similar to ancient design?
It is a memorial to those lives lost
in the “war to end all wars.”
Walk around and through the circle of stones.
Read the names of servicemen who gave their lives—
thirteen in all—immortalized on these walls.
Local heroes they all were during that first World War.
But now all that is left are memories made of stone.
