I recently visited the Bloedel Reserve, located on Bainbridge Island, WA. This was my first visit to these public gardens, and I must state that I was totally taken aback by the beauty and serenity of this idyllic spot. It was much more than what I had expected. Trails meander through a meadow, marsh, forest, a moss garden, and Japanese garden. Along the trails are interspersed a long, rectangular reflection pool, boardwalks, ponds, and an amazing Japanese garden guesthouse. The setting is, definitely, Northwest at its best. I can only imagine what it’s like during the spring blossom time and the fiery colors of autumn. Expect to spend a couple hours exploring the trails in the reserve. At the end of the trail is the Visitor’s Center, the Bloedel’s residence from 1951 until 1986.
