Today was an absolutely gorgeous day, with highs in the 50’s and mostly sunny. I headed down to my favorite, local park – Point Defiance Park, to see what flowers were in bloom. Late February here brings out the early blooms. The first thing I noticed was the abundance of little, yellow Daffodils. Those and the lovely, Hellebores, as shown above, were predominant. Hellabores come in different colors that include shades of pink, mauve, and white. Here are some of the mauve colored ones. The plants, themselves, are rather low growing, and the large blossoms tend to droop down, hiding their beautiful blossom faces.
Here are some of the white colored Hellebores with beautiful, violet speckled faces.
And then there’s the quintessential spring flower, the Crocus.
Included in some of the early bloomers are the lovely Rhododendrons, our state flower. They will be in bloom for the next few months throughout the region—lots of them.
And last, but not least, a lovely, pink Azalea bush.
