Romancing the Cascades

Last week I stayed at Sun Mountain Lodge, which is tucked away in the Methow Valley, high upon a hill overlooking the valley along with spectacular views of the North Cascade Mountains. The lodge is located just before the town of Winthrop, heading east on Hwy 20, in northcentral Washington State. This was my first time staying at the lodge, and I must say that it is one of the most spectacular locations I have ever come across in my travels in the Pacific Northwest. It is considered a four star travel destination. I can’t say enough about this hidden spot in paradise! The lodge is spacious with a most beautiful, interior design. The food is fantastic. Outdoor recreational activities are offered, as well, such as hiking, biking, horseback riding, fly fishing, river floats and rafting. Here are some photos I took in and around the lodge.

A trip across the North Cascades Highway (Hwy 20) is a must! You will be blown away by the snowy, craggy peaks. Just make sure you gas up before crossing the pass, if heading west. The last chance to gas up is in the small community of Mazama. Here are just a few photos I snapped of some of the miles and miles of North Cascades vistas. It’s a never ending show. Put this one on your bucket list of places to visit!

Looks totally gorgeous. I’ll have to add the trip to my wish list, though that’s getting impossibly long these days! 😉

Lots of beautiful views and (obviously) the North Cascades highway is open already. Between this and your previous blog, you give me lots of reasons to head over there.

    • Oh, you must visit the Methow Valley and North Cascades Highway! Springtime is best for both these areas, since it can get really hot during the summer in northcentral Washington. And the wildflowers are so lovely this time of year.

Thank you!
