Yes, it’s that time of summer where the Dahlias are dancing to the tune of August sunshine. I absolutely love to photograph these floral beauties! I am privileged to live close to a world class garden at Point Defiance Park, located in Tacoma, Washington. There is a separate Dahlia garden area that contains rows and rows of these colorful specimens. There are several different varieties, and you wouldn’t even think you were looking at a dahlia if you didn’t read the signs. Some have thick clusters of petals, such as the one pictured above; some have only a single row of petals. Others are very ornate, and some have spiny looking petals, such as the Cactus Dahlia variety Other variety names are Ball, Pom Pom, Waterlily, Fimbricated, Decorative, Collarette, Orchid, Single, etc. I tried to photograph as many varieties as I could. I hope you enjoy the colorful images. There are so many that I will probably post more at another time.
If you live in the southern Puget Sound area, now is the time to visit the Dahlia garden at Point Defiance Park, Tacoma. You will not be disappointed!

So beautiful, especially #3. 🙂
So glad you enjoyed the dahlias! I love #3 too! So much, in fact, that I took several shots of this Collarette variety Dahlia.
Such a beautiful splash of colours, Peggy!
Thank you so much, William!
Thanks for recommending another great garden! Dahlias are a favorite, so yesterday afternoon my husband and I went to Duke’s on Ruston for happy hour and then went out to see the dahlias at Point Defiance. Amazing!
Duke’s is a favorite spot of mine, too, for food and drink. According to a good friend of mine from NYC, Duke’s has the best clam chowder he’s had! So glad you got to visit the Dahlia garden at Point Defiance!
Well, I’m not sure it’s the best clam chowder…it’s very good (as is the lobster chowder), but I’m still partial to Mo’s on the Oregon Coast.
